10 Great Reasons to Buy an Outback Yacht

10 Great Reasons to Buy an Outback Yacht

Over ten years as a dream, three years in design, and revealed to the world at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October 2019,  the Outback 50 represents a revolutionary concept in recreational boating.

Designed by active boaters for active boaters who want to experience every moment of life on the water, the Outback offers a perfect solution for families and water sports enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re an offshore cruiser or occasional weekender, here are ten great reasons to help you discover for yourself why boating is more fun “out back.”

1.  More versatile outdoor deck space than any other yacht in her class.

Designed specifically for outdoor living, the Outback 50’s main “infinity” deck stretches nearly half her length. Easily stow and launch a tender, jet skis, kayaks, dive gear or other sports equipment, or furnish it with a barbecue, lounging and dining furniture, and fishing gear. Remove the transom stainless steel gates for instant and unobstructed access to all of the adventure available on the water.

2. Modern, elegant, yet carefree interiors for easy onboard living.

With a focus on living on deck, we chose an elegant, modest interior that emphasizes light, visibility, and expansive views. The salon opens directly onto the aft deck, allowing an effortless flow between indoor and outdoor activities and easy, same level access to the galley. Modern materials,  traditional teak finishes, and clever design elements minimize maintenance, maximize comfort, and provide a warm, gracious atmosphere.

3. Plenty of room to accommodate you, your family, or your guests.

Accommodate yourself, your family, or your friends in comfort and style by choosing one of two accommodation layouts, either a standard three-stateroom/two head or an optional two-stateroom/one head layout. No matter which option you choose, there’s plenty of room for everyone to have space and privacy. Staterooms are roomy, efficient, comfortable, and filled with light. Check out our deck plans here.

4. Twin engine propulsion enhances security and performance.

Twin engine configuration provides redundancy in engines, running gear, and rudders, offering increased security. It also allows us to reduce the draft of the Outback 50 by more than a foot, making the keel the lowest point on the boat and thereby protecting the running gear. And standard Volvo D4i-G-270 HP engines can push speeds up to 20 knots using less than 500HP in the process.

5. Shallow draft means access cruising grounds and anchorages inaccessible to other yachts.

One of the biggest advantages to Outback’s twin-engine propulsion is a reduced draft of only 3 feet, allowing you and your Offshore 50 to get “up close and personal” to explore shallower cruising grounds and secluded anchorages that other, more conventional yachts her size simply can’t access. Closer in means greater access to and intimacy with nature.

6. Comfortable, fuel-efficient cruising at speeds you won’t believe.

The Outback’s unique hull shape and proportion create a smooth, stable, and level ride – at  cruising speeds twice that of 56-foot motor yachts with comparable horsepower. The Outback 50’s hull produces an almost perfect hull resistance curve, minimal trim angle, improved fuel efficiency, and extended cruising range. It takes about  500 HP to push the Outback to 20 knots, and she operates comfortably throughout her desired speed range without using excessive power or fuel. And her cruising range at 15 knots is several hundred miles – more than most other vessels her size. Slow down to sedate “trawler speed” of 8 knots, and the range increases to almost 1,000 miles.

7. Aft engine placement means more comfort and convenient systems maintenance.

All of the Outback 50’s engine room and mechanical spaces are located aft, under the infinity deck. That means you can easily access, service, and repair your engines, generator, or other mechanical equipment without tracking tools, dirt, or oil into your interior spaces or disrupting anybody’s life onboard. And aft engine placement provides a more comfortable ride with less noise or vibration.

8. Optional propulsion, equipment, and interior layouts make your Outback as unique as you are.

Choose one of two layouts – The Extended Pilothouse or the Infinity Deck version. Choose your propulsion – standard Twin Volvo D4i-G 270 HP  or optional Twin Cummins QSB 6.7 425 HP engines.  And then customize your Outback 50 with a stern thruster, SeaKeeper stabilizers, Zipwake active trim control, or a mast with a boom. No matter the options you choose, you can make your Outback unique to suit your own cruising needs, whether you’re venturing offshore or spending an occasional weekend on the water with your family and friends.

9. Designed and built by yachting industry legends.

When Outback founder Andrew Cilla and legendary yacht designer Michael Peters sat down to discuss their ideas about the perfect boat for their own boating lifestyles, they were surprised to discover they shared an almost identical vision. The Outback was born from that vision. Michael Peters Yacht Design worked up the drawings, and when they were complete, Andrew engaged John Olson of Offshore West, Inc., to serve as the U.S. distributor for Outback Yachts and manage their construction, based on his experience in building and commissioning over 100 Offshore Yachts with Kha Shing Enterprises.

10. Surprisingly affordable.

The Outback 50 is a semi-customized yacht. It combines the advantages of choosing layout options that fit your active boating lifestyle with the cost effectiveness of a production yacht. Built using state-of-the-art production methods pioneered by Kha Shing shipyards in Taiwan, a standard-equipped Outback 50 is surprisingly affordable, starting at less than $1.5 million. With her unique hull design, shallow draft, light weight, and aft-mounted engines providing extended cruising range and fuel efficiency, the Outback 50 is also extremely economical to operate

Whether you are an East Coast boater, cruising the Florida Keys, Intracoastal Waterway, the  Bahamas, or points further south — or a West Coast boater cruising California’s Channel Islands, Puget Sound, or the Inside Passage to Alaska — the Outback 50 is a perfect cruising yacht for active boaters like you.

Launch, retrieve, and stow your tender, jet skis, sea kayaks, or paddle boards with ease. Start your dive expedition just a few steps from your salon door. Cater a casual aft deck lunch or dinner for friends and family. Or just drop the anchor in a secluded spot, relax on deck with a fishing rod or a good book and a cold beverage, and enjoy the salt air and the play of light on the water.

We’d love to take you out on a demo ride and show you why we believe the Outback 50 will revolutionize active boating. Call or drop in to either our West Coast or East Coast offices to chat.

We’ll look forward to meeting you, and showing you why boating life really is more fun “out back.”
